Sri Aurobindo and The Mother brought the world a vision of the next steps in human evolution and a path to accelerate it in one’s own being. They were at the forefront of a shift in global consciousness, the results of which we see today all over the world in new values, new ways of living together and expanded ranges of human experience. Their insights offer an all-inclusive understanding of the purpose and direction of human life.

A Force in Action

“There are moments when the Spirit moves among men and the breath of the Lord is abroad upon the waters of our being; there are others when it retires and men are left to act in the strength or the weakness of their own egoism. The first are periods when even a little effort produces great results and changes destiny…”

We are in such a period of change now. Humankind is in the throes of an evolutionary crisis, but the consciousness needed to create a bright future for all is available to us.

Five Dreams

On the occasion of India’s independence in 1947, the goal of which he had been working for all his life, Sri Aurobindo wrote a statement to be broadcast throughout the country on All India Radio. It laid out five prophetic dreams: a vision of national awakening of India; an Asian resurgence; global unity; India’s gift of spirituality to the world; and finally a step in evolution that would raise humankind to a higher and larger consciousness and bring a more harmonious and divine life on earth.

These dreams echo in the foundations of Auroville and offer directions to SAIIER’s educational work.

Two as One

Sri Aurobindo and The Mother described themselves as having the same consciousness — as one being in two bodies.

“Without him, I exist not; without me, he is unmanifest.”

While Sri Aurobindo left his body in 1950, The Mother continued working in her body on earth until November 1973: a constantly radiating spiritual force touching unnumbered lives and influencing world developments.
