Sri Aurobindo and The Mother brought to the world a vision of the next steps in human evolution and a path to accelerate it in one’s own being. Their insights propose a new understanding of the purpose and direction of human life. Their work inspires every aspect of Integral Education and human development at SAIIER. A Force in Action

There are in the history of the earth, moments, hours, special turning points, when all the old standards no longer hold good, when a spirit is abroad that shakes to the core, comfortable beliefs in well-trodden paths. Such occasions demand from us a special heroism for we must surrender our attachment to the settled order of things so as to robustly seek new solutions. We are at just such an instant, that Sri Aurobindo, writing in The Life Divine seems to have been describing where he says that Mankind is in the throes of an evolutionary crisis in which is concealed a choice of its destiny.

An Evolutionary Perspective

“There is an ascending evolution in Nature…” wrote the Mother. Sri Aurobindo’s work organizes itself around the acknowledgement that humanity is not the last word of evolution, but a transitional being—a preparation on the way for the next leap of consciousness.

Five Dreams

In his 1947 broadcast, Sri Aurobindo laid out five prophetic dreams—a vision of national awakening, an asian resurgence, global unity, the role of India and its gift of spirituality to the world, and finally the evolution of a divine life on earth and the possibility of a whole new species. These dreams echo in the foundations of Auroville and offer directions to SAIIER’s educational commitments.

Two as One

In the work of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, there is no separation. What one conceived, the other carried forward. Where one was the silent force of vision, the other was its tireless action in the world. Their contribution to the earth is a single movement—consciousness evolving through matter, spirit manifesting in form.

Their writings, their lives, their work form a coherent and continuous invitation: to participate in the transformation of human nature and to grow towards a greater, truer way of being.
