A hub for research guidance, documentation, and finding ways to do research differently
The Research Desk supports proposals, documentation, field-based studies, and visiting researchers. It acts as a simple point of entry into SAIIER’s ongoing inquiries, providing orientation and review for serious collaborators.
The Research Desk also takes up it’s own projects on doing research within education and provides support in publishing research.
The Auroville charter mentions Auroville as a “site of material and spiritual researches” the SAIIER Research Desk is currently looking at academic research within the area of education. This is done with the intention to build a bridge between innovations and experimentations in Auroville and the larger Educational ecosystem.
The aspiration is to “re-search” research methodologies grounded in Integral Education and build frameworks of research relevant to Auroville and the world.
What is research?
Research is defined as the creation of new knowledge.
It may not require “researcher”. It can for example be a teacher solving everyday challenges in their classroom. However, it requires some discipline and rigor and is not just reflection-in-action (experimentation).
It does not need to be only quantitative to prove something, but can be qualitative and describe experiences that are valuable to the world.
Auroville
a living field of learning
One of the characteristics of Auroville project is that it does not consist on applying an ideal formed by the mind to a recalcitrant life but on allowing its ideals emerge within life itself,
“It is life itself which has to evolve”
as Mother put it.
But if Auroville grows in the middle of life itself and Aurovilians have been groping around for several decades in search of new ways, there must be some visible signs of this growth in our midst, like buds in the midst of weeds. What method could we use to assess our progress in different domains, that would make sense to us as well as to outside partners?
